Oxfordshire trials low-carbon road resurfacing on B4445, targeting 30-tonne CO2 cut
highways-news.comOxfordshire County Council has started a pilot to resurface a stretch of the B4445 in Chinnor using a combination of low-carbon materials and construction techniques. The project expects to cut more than 30 tonnes of CO2 equivalent compared with a conventional resurfacing, with the biggest saving coming from a bespoke net-zero binder course developed by Breedon. The trial also includes drainage repairs, verge clearance, and traffic management innovations. The council says the aim is to measure how these technologies perform together in real conditions, not just their carbon impact but also durability and future maintenance needs. Results could inform wider adoption across the UK highways network.
