Oterra partners with HowGood to provide product carbon footprints for natural color ingredients
confectioneryproduction.comOterra, a Danish producer of natural food colors, has partnered with sustainability data platform HowGood to develop Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs) for selected ingredients. The aim is to give food and beverage customers more detailed environmental data for their Scope 3 reporting and decarbonization efforts. The work falls under Oterra's 2030 Sustainability Strategy, which covers climate action, responsible sourcing, ecosystem protection, and people development. The first phase will use HowGood's methodology and intelligence platform to calculate footprints for selected Oterra products. Oterra says the partnership will help it connect existing supply chain and site data to the specific products sold to customers. That matters because buyers increasingly need product-level numbers, not just corporate averages, to make sourcing decisions and track emissions reductions. No specific products, timelines, or emissions baselines were announced in the release. The practical value will depend on how transparent Oterra and HowGood are about the underlying assumptions, especially around agriculture and processing.
