Oracle has signed agreements covering more than 1.7 GW of wind energy from ten Texas projects, with suppliers including Clearway Energy, ENGIE, RWE, and Scout Clean Energy. The power will flow into the ERCOT grid that serves Oracle's AI data center in Abilene. The company says the projects will avoid about 1.8 million metric tons of CO2 annually, based on expected generation and eGrid factors. These purchases are part of Oracle's 2035 target to match 100% of electricity use at its custom AI data centers with carbon-free power. The announcement adds a major hyperscaler to the list of tech companies signing physical PPAs in Texas. For observers, the key detail will be whether these are new wind projects and what the offtake structure looks like, since that determines how much they actually add to grid decarbonization.
