Oracle is backing 10 wind projects in Texas that will add over 1.7 gigawatts of carbon-free power to the ERCOT grid. The company says this will cover electricity for its AI data center expansion, including the Abilene campus, and supports its goal to match 100% of AI data center electricity use with carbon-free power by 2035. Oracle's global head of infrastructure says the company will pay for new generation, transmission upgrades, and even on-site power where needed, aiming to avoid shifting costs to local ratepayers. Excess power would be made available to the grid. This is a concrete example of a tech firm funding renewable capacity alongside load growth, but the real test will be whether ERCOT interconnection timelines and cost allocation hold up.
