Oracle is investing in 10 wind energy projects across Texas that are expected to add more than 1.7 gigawatts of carbon-free electricity to the ERCOT grid. The company says the projects could generate enough power for over 525,000 U.S. homes each year, supporting its expanding AI data center operations, including a campus in Abilene. Oracle has also set a goal to match 100% of its AI data center electricity use with carbon-free power by 2035. Julia Robin, global head of infrastructure and planning for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, said Oracle is funding new generation, transmission upgrades, and some on-site power projects as part of the effort. She added that excess power will be made available to the broader grid where possible. The announcement raises questions about whether local ratepayers will absorb any costs, but Oracle says it is paying for the electricity infrastructure itself. The deal is a notable example of a large tech company using corporate procurement to support Texas grid capacity.
