The Open Group has introduced the Open Footprint Standard 1.0, a new data model designed to standardize how companies collect and report Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. This framework aims to solve the common struggle of tracking Scope 3 emissions across complex supply chains where data is often fragmented across spreadsheets and disconnected systems. By providing a common data dictionary and JSON schema files, the standard helps multinational firms align their reporting with various global regulations, including the CSRD and ISSB. This move is particularly relevant for the digital infrastructure sector as the energy demands of AI and data centers increase the need for auditable carbon accounting.
