The Open Group has introduced the Open Footprint Standard 1.0, an open data model designed to standardize how companies collect and report Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. The framework aims to reduce the manual effort involved in tracking supply chain data and ensure compliance with global regulations like the CSRD and California SB 253. By providing a common data dictionary and JSON schema files, the standard helps organizations move away from disconnected spreadsheets. This structure is intended to make carbon accounting more auditable and ready for integration with AI analytics tools, particularly as the energy demands of data centers and AI grow.
