OOCL has completed the OOCL Wisdom, the first of seven planned methanol dual-fuel container vessels. With a capacity of 24,168 TEU, this ship is currently the largest of its kind, utilizing methanol systems across its main engines, auxiliary engines, and boilers to reduce emissions. The vessel was built at the Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering yard in China. Infrastructure is the bottleneck. It is much cheaper to build a new ship than to retrofit an entire port's fuel handling system. I wonder what the payback period looks like if fuel prices swing.
