On's CleanCloud sneakers use captured CO2 and renewable hydrogen for mass production

On, the Swiss sportswear brand, has launched over one million pairs of Cloud X 5 shoes made with CleanCloud technology. The midsole uses EVA foam derived from Infinium eNaphtha, a feedstock produced from waste CO2 and renewable hydrogen at Infinium's Project Pathfinder facility in Corpus Christi, Texas. This replaces fossil-based naphtha without changing the shoe's performance or requiring new manufacturing equipment. The eNaphtha is shipped to Borouge International in Finland, where it is converted into e-ethylene and then into EVA. The entire supply chain is ISCC PLUS certified, ensuring traceability. On originally planned commercial scale by the end of the decade but hit the milestone four years early, showing how existing petrochemical infrastructure can be used to cut carbon emissions in consumer goods.
