Oman has launched the Greater Muscat Structural Plan, a long term urban strategy aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. The plan targets a 90% reduction in carbon emissions through the integration of renewable energy and a massive overhaul of city infrastructure. Key initiatives include the construction of a 55km light rail network and the development of 15 economic clusters to diversify the economy. The strategy also focuses on climate resilience, improving flood protection, and increasing public green spaces to enhance urban liveability.
