Oman is updating its aviation regulations and investing in cleaner technologies to cut carbon emissions from air travel. The Civil Aviation Authority has submitted a national action plan to ICAO that projects emissions out to 2050 and outlines mitigation strategies including fleet modernization, operational efficiency, and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). A national task force formed in 2024 is working on a framework for SAF production using waste, agricultural resources, hydrogen, and carbon capture. The country is also promoting domestic carbon credit projects under the CORSIA offsetting scheme and tightening environmental inspections at airports. These steps align with Oman Vision 2040 and the national net zero by 2050 target. For investors, the focus on SAF production and carbon offset infrastructure may open new project finance opportunities in the region.
