Oman's net-zero plan adds 5.7 GW solar, 2 GW wind, 1 GW storage and a green hydrogen push by 2030
thecooldown.comOman, one of the world's largest oil producers, has published a net-zero strategy that targets a 33% cut in emissions by 2035 and net-zero by 2050. The plan calls for 5.7 GW of solar, 2 GW of wind, and 1 GW of battery storage by 2030, plus grid-scale pumped hydro at Wadi Dhayka. Oman also wants to produce more than 1 million tons of green hydrogen a year by 2030 and is simplifying rules for carbon markets to attract investment. Several hydrogen projects are moving forward, though BP and an Engie-Pesco consortium have already dropped out, which shows the gap between announcements and delivered projects. Oman is not cutting oil and gas production and plans new concession rounds, so the strategy reads as a managed transition rather than a rapid exit from fossil fuels. The 2035 target and carbon market rules will be worth watching for how they are enforced.
