Oman's 44.01 signs $11.7M carbon removal offtake deals with Frontier for in-situ mineralization
muscatdaily.comOman-founded carbon removal company 44.01 has signed $11.7 million in offtake agreements with Frontier to remove and permanently store 20,932 tonnes of carbon dioxide between 2028 and 2031. The deal is Frontier's first purchase using in-situ mineralization, a process that injects CO2 dissolved in water into peridotite rock, where it reacts to form solid carbonates. Buyers in the Frontier group include Stripe, Google, Shopify, Autodesk, H&M Group, and Workday. 44.01 has already demonstrated the process in Oman and the UAE, where exposed peridotite formations are available. The Frontier-backed project is meant to move beyond short pilot injections into continuous operations over several years. The goal is to gather data on injection rates, water use, and operating costs to determine whether in-situ mineralization can scale economically and offer permanent storage in areas where conventional geological storage is not practical.
