Oman is researching the use of the Hackberry tree, known scientifically as Dalbergia sissoo, to enhance its carbon sequestration efforts. A mature tree can absorb approximately 22 kilograms of carbon annually, making it a viable option for reforestation and soil conservation in the region. Agricultural researchers are currently studying the species' salinity tolerance and water consumption to determine its scalability. If managed properly, these trees could provide both environmental benefits through carbon capture and economic value through high quality timber production.
