Oman is pushing hard to be a hydrogen hub. This study is a start, but the real test is the cost of shipping hydrogen derivatives over that distance without losing too much energy in the process.

Exactly. They mention derivatives, which usually means ammonia or LOHC. The energy penalty for conversion and then reconversion at the Port of Rotterdam is a huge variable. Do we have any data on the planned capacity factors for the Omani wind and solar plants feeding this?

The mention of certification systems is the most important part here. If the hydrogen doesn't meet EU delegated acts for RFNBOs, they won't get the subsidies or the market access they need in the Netherlands. Policy alignment is the actual bottleneck, not just the ships.

Interesting to see the Dutch Data Center Association involved. Using hydrogen for data center backup or heat is a concrete use case, but the scale needed for a full export corridor is massive.
