Oman advances sustainable aviation with CORSIA, SAF, and fleet upgrades to meet 2050 net-zero target

Oman's Civil Aviation Authority is pushing forward a sustainability agenda as part of the National Aviation Strategy 2040. The plan includes expanding the use of sustainable aviation fuel, modernizing aircraft fleets for better fuel efficiency, and implementing operational measures like optimized takeoffs and single-engine taxiing. Oman submitted its national CORSIA action plan in 2023 and established a working group on low-carbon aviation fuel in 2024. The country is also exploring domestic production of sustainable aviation fuel using waste, organic materials, hydrogen, and captured CO2. Airport environmental management is being tightened with monitoring systems and inspection programs. These efforts aim to balance aviation growth with Oman's goal of net-zero emissions by 2050, while also supporting the broader Oman Vision 2040 economic diversification plan.
