Oman is expanding its net-zero efforts in agriculture by adopting smart irrigation, hydroponics, vertical farming, drones, AI, and IoT to cut water, energy, and fertilizer use. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources is running 11 projects through early 2026, including afforestation, blue carbon, organic fertilizer production, and a research partnership with Petroleum Development Oman to evaluate Ghaf trees for carbon sequestration. Emissions from crop, livestock, and aquaculture sectors are about 1.8 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent under Oman's net-zero pathway. The ministry aims to reduce that through sustainable feed production, local feed resources, and precision fertilization. Over 600,000 fruit trees were distributed from 2020 to 2025, and the OQ Green initiative with OQ Group is supporting agricultural sustainability and economic returns.
