Okinawa Coca-Cola factory gets large rooftop solar array, cuts CO2 by 330 tons per year

Okinawa Coca-Cola Bottling has switched on a large rooftop solar system at its Urasoe plant, called Kary Roof. The installation covers about 10% of the factory's electricity needs and is expected to cut carbon dioxide emissions by 330 metric tons each year. This is the 63rd deployment of the Kary Roof system across Okinawa, a program run by Okinawa Electric Power and Okinawa New Energy Development. The project shows how industrial facilities in Japan are using on-site solar to reduce grid demand and lower their carbon footprint. For a prefecture like Okinawa that relies heavily on imported fossil fuels, every local renewable megawatt helps. The numbers are modest but concrete: 10% of plant load from one roof, no land use conflict, and a replicable model for other factories in the region.
