Oilpatch survey: Pacific Link pipeline and Pathways CCS expected to proceed, timing less certain
pipelineonline.caAn ATB Cormark survey of oilpatch companies and investors found broad confidence that Pacific Link and the Pathways carbon capture project will eventually move forward, but much less certainty on when. 77% of respondents expect a positive investment decision, while 53% think pipeline construction starts in 2028 or later, beyond Alberta's September 2027 target. The timeline gap matters because the projects are linked: Pacific Link is contingent on Pathways being built to offset emissions. A legal challenge from Cold Lake First Nations over consultation adds another layer of risk. The survey also shows skepticism about decarbonization on its own, with 48% calling such projects harmful to long term competitiveness versus 26% beneficial.
