OGCI, the Geneva Association and the CEM CCUS Initiative published a joint paper on October 12, 2026 that lays out four guiding tenets for improving the insurability of carbon management projects, particularly carbon capture and storage. The paper is the result of a multi-year dialogue between industry, governments, insurers and reinsurers, and it is aimed at supporting project bankability as CCS moves from early deployment to commercial scale. The four tenets are cross-sector collaboration, clear regulation, whole value chain assessment, and clear risk allocation frameworks. The paper also highlights that early clarity on post-injection responsibilities and targeted public policy measures can help bridge gaps in the early-stage market. A webinar to discuss the findings is scheduled for November 5.
