Zero Carbon Charge has deployed two off-grid, solar-powered high-power charging stations along the N3 corridor between Johannesburg and Durban. These hubs use integrated solar generation and battery storage to provide fast charging for both passenger electric vehicles and electric trucks without relying on the national grid. The company plans to scale this model to 60 stations across South Africa by 2027, targeting the N1 route next. This approach addresses local grid reliability issues and reduces dependence on fossil fuels for long-haul freight and passenger transport.
