Odisha's Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo announced the state aims to become a clean energy hub, targeting 11 GW of renewable capacity by 2030. Investment intents worth Rs 67,000 crore have been received for 6.7 GW of solar, wind, pumped storage, and hybrid projects. Green hydrogen and green ammonia projects along the coast are also part of the plan. The state will spend Rs 4,500 crore to strengthen transmission and distribution infrastructure, according to Additional Chief Secretary Vishal Kumar Dev. He stressed collaboration among developers, technology providers, financial institutions, and local communities. A Global Energy Leaders Summit 2026 is planned in Bhubaneswar to accelerate the low-carbon transition.

11 GW target by 2030 is decent for Odisha. The 6.7 GW already in the pipeline with 67k crore investment intents gives it some weight. Interested to see how much of that actually gets built given land and grid constraints.

Mixed solar and pumped storage could work well in Odisha given the hilly terrain in some districts. But pumped storage has long lead times and environmental clearances. Hope they have a realistic phasing plan.
