Odisha signs MoU for low-carbon construction centre with IIT Bhubaneswar and Development Alternatives
orissapost.comOdisha has signed a tripartite MoU to create a Centre of Excellence for low-carbon construction materials and sustainable urban development. The partners are the Odisha Urban Academy, IIT Bhubaneswar, and Development Alternatives. The centre will focus first on low-carbon building materials and construction and demolition waste management, then expand to air quality, solid waste, and water quality. The first project is a waste management roadmap for the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack urban cluster. The MoU aims to turn research into real city-level action. IIT Bhubaneswar will handle technical research, Development Alternatives will push implementation, and OUA will train local bodies. The state minister called it a shift from just building infrastructure to building it responsibly. If the centre delivers on its roadmap and DPR, it could set a template for other Indian states looking to cut embodied carbon in construction.
