sambadenglish.comThe Odisha government has signed a tripartite MoU to establish a Centre of Excellence on Low Carbon Construction Materials and Sustainable Development. The partners are the Odisha Urban Academy, IIT Bhubaneswar, and Development Alternatives. The centre will focus on research, innovation, and capacity building for sustainable construction practices, with an initial project to create a roadmap for construction and demolition waste management in the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack-Khordha-Jatni-Pipili cluster. The initiative aims to support Odisha's goal of becoming a developed state by 2036 through climate-resilient urban development. The centre will also expand into areas like urban air quality, solid waste management, and water quality assessment. This partnership combines academic research from IIT Bhubaneswar, implementation expertise from Development Alternatives, and policy support from the Odisha Urban Academy to create scalable models for sustainable urban development across the state.
