Odisha signs MoU for Centre of Excellence in low-carbon construction materials and C&D waste management
pragativadi.comThe Housing and Urban Development Department of Odisha has signed a tripartite MoU to set up a Centre of Excellence on Low-Carbon Construction Materials and Sustainable Development. The partners are the Odisha Urban Academy, IIT Bhubaneswar, and Development Alternatives. The centre's first project will be a comprehensive roadmap for construction and demolition waste management for the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack-Khordha-Jatni-Pipili cluster. This includes scientific waste assessment, integrated management strategy, technology promotion, and institutional capacity building. The centre will later expand its scope to urban air quality, solid waste management, and water quality. IIT Bhubaneswar will lead research and innovation, Development Alternatives will promote sustainable technologies, and OUA will drive policy support and capacity building among Urban Local Bodies. The initiative aligns with Odisha's Viksit Odisha 2036 vision and aims to position the state as a national leader in climate-resilient urban development.
