Odisha forestry body extends JICA project, advances carbon credit initiative for 2,700 farmers
odishabarta.comThe Odisha Forestry Sector Development Society held its 38th governing body meeting and approved a three year extension of the JICA assisted OFSDP Phase II through 2030 with no cost increase. The project focuses on sustainable forest management and livelihood support for communities living near forests. A key update is the Farm Forestry Carbon Credit Initiative. Over 2,700 beneficiaries across 12 forest divisions have enrolled, covering more than 1,800 acres. The program links smallholder farm forestry with carbon markets to generate long term income and environmental benefits. The governing body also formalized a Livelihood Resource Centre to support producer groups and forest based enterprises beyond the project period.
