Odisha has extended its Electric Vehicle Policy, 2021 until 31 December 2026, keeping purchase subsidies and fee waivers in place for EV buyers. The state will continue to offer a 100 percent exemption on road tax and registration fees for electric vehicles. Purchase subsidies vary by category, with up to Rs 20,000 for two-wheelers, Rs 30,000 for three-wheelers, and Rs 1.5 lakh for four-wheelers. Commercial vehicles also remain eligible for support, including buses and goods carriers. The extension gives consumers and manufacturers more certainty, but the real test is whether charging infrastructure and grid capacity keep pace. The policy also includes incentives for local EV manufacturing, scrapping old vehicles, and interest subvention on loans. Odisha first introduced the policy in 2021 as part of its push to lower transport emissions, and the renewal signals that the state still sees EVs as a core part of that effort.
