Octavia Carbon has deployed a pilot direct air capture project near Lake Elementaita in Kenya. The system extracts CO2 from the atmosphere and partners with Cella Mineral Storage to permanently sequester the gas in basaltic volcanic rock formations. To keep operational costs low, the facility uses waste heat from the Mumbi Geothermal plant to power 85% of its energy needs. The project aims to remove 1,000 tonnes of CO2 annually, generating high-quality carbon credits through permanent mineralization.
