Ocean Visions launches digital roadmap to scale seaweed for carbon removal and decarbonization

Ocean Visions has released a new digital roadmap focused on scaling seaweed-based products as a climate solution. The tool identifies five key sectors where seaweed can replace petroleum-based ingredients, including agriculture, biomaterials, critical minerals, food and animal feed, and biofuels. Seaweed grows fast without freshwater or fertilizer, making it a low input option for cutting emissions across industries. The roadmap combines expert input on scientific readiness, production challenges, financing barriers, and policy needs. It is designed as a living resource that will be updated as the sector advances. Ocean Visions says the goal is to provide a shared understanding of what it will take to move seaweed from niche applications to meaningful decarbonization at scale.
