Occidental Petroleum has announced a delay in the operational start of Stratos, which is intended to be the world's largest direct air capture facility in West Texas. The plant is designed to remove 500,000 metric tons of CO2 from the atmosphere annually, significantly scaling up current DAC capabilities. Company leadership reported that while the technology and process units are performing as expected, issues with specific components have pushed back the timeline. The company had previously aimed to have the facility online by the end of 2024.
