A public lecture at Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) in Nigeria brought together scholars, policymakers, and community leaders to discuss how climate change is affecting food security across Africa. The keynote speaker, Professor Edwin Julius Jeblar Momoh, highlighted that while Africa contributes little to global emissions, the continent faces severe risks from rising temperatures, erratic rainfall, drought, and flooding. He called for policies that strengthen food systems and promote climate-smart agriculture. The lecture recommended practical measures including reducing greenhouse gas emissions, adopting the Water-Energy-Food nexus approach, investing in drought-resistant crops and livestock, and expanding ecosystem monitoring. OAUSTECH's Vice-Chancellor urged Nigerians to plant more trees to absorb carbon dioxide and improve public health. A memorandum of understanding was signed between OAUSTECH and a Sierra Leone university to boost academic collaboration on these issues.
