Oaks Ibn Battuta Gate Hotel Dubai Cuts Carbon Emissions with On-Site Farm and Water Bottling

The Oaks Ibn Battuta Gate Hotel in Dubai launched two sustainability initiatives to lower its carbon footprint. It now grows produce at a local farm in Khawaneej, using a farm-to-table model that cuts food miles and reduces emissions by an estimated 30 to 70 percent compared to imported goods. The hotel also installed an on-site water bottling plant that produces still and sparkling water in reusable glass bottles, eliminating single-use plastic and cutting transport-related emissions by 40 to 80 percent. Both programs tie production volumes directly to hotel occupancy, which helps minimize waste and keeps costs in check. The farm supplies organic vegetables like tomatoes, peppers, and lettuce, while the water plant runs at zero single-use plastic. These steps show how hotels can reduce operational emissions and waste without relying on external offsets or complex supply chains.
