The Net-Zero Asset Owner Alliance (NZAOA) released its sixth progress report, showing a decline in portfolio carbon intensity for listed equities and corporate bonds. Intensity in equities dropped from 61 to 50 tonnes CO2e per $1m invested between 2023 and 2025, while corporate bonds fell from 73 to 50. However, absolute financed emissions rose to 235.5 million tonnes in 2025, partly due to expanded reporting that now includes private assets for the first time. Despite the increase, emissions remain 8% below 2021 levels, and signatories fully met 88% of their first-cycle targets. The report also highlights a significant rise in climate solutions investment, reaching $787 billion in 2025, up from $555 billion in 2023. The NZAOA, with 85 signatories managing $10.5 trillion in assets, is pushing for better private market data and transition targets for hard-to-abate sectors. Sovereign debt remains a gap, as it is not yet systematically included in portfolio target-setting. The alliance's focus on credible transition plans and engagement with investment managers signals a shift toward more rigorous climate risk management.
