Japanese shipping company NYK Line has agreed to purchase carbon dioxide removal (CDR) credits from U.S. firm Graphyte. The credits come from Graphyte's Loblolly project in Arkansas, which uses a carbon-casting process to dry and compress biomass residues from agriculture, forestry, and wood processing into a stable solid form for long-term underground storage. NYK Line plans to use these credits to offset CO2 emissions from its maritime operations, alongside other decarbonization efforts like switching to ammonia and methanol fuels. The CDR credits will be verified by independent third parties through measurement, reporting, and verification protocols.
