Nuvoco Vistas has signed a power supply deal with CleanMax for a 46.4 MW wind-solar hybrid project in Bhikamkhore, Rajasthan. The plant will include 20 MW of wind, 26.4 MWdc of solar, and a 2 MWh battery system. CleanMax will build and operate it as an independent power producer, with electricity delivered to Nuvoco's cement plants through the state transmission open access network. Once online, the project is expected to generate around 100 million units of electricity per year and avoid roughly 125,485 tonnes of CO2 across Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. The deal supports Nuvoco's broader decarbonisation push, which also includes waste heat recovery, alternative fuels, and energy efficiency work across its manufacturing sites.

46.4 MW hybrid for a cement plant is a decent size for open access. 20 MW wind plus 26.4 MWdc solar and only 2 MWh storage. The BESS looks more like a control device than a shifting tool. Still, 100 MU a year and 125k tonnes CO2 avoided is the number that matters.

2 MWh on a 46.4 MW hybrid plant is tiny. That won't move the dispatch curve. It can handle smoothing or maybe frequency response, but if they call it storage for firming, that math doesn't work. Also STU open access in Rajasthan can be a bottleneck. Worth watching interconnection timelines.

The Scope 1 and 2 claim is odd for a PPA. The buyer gets the renewable electricity and maybe the RECs, so Scope 2 makes sense. Scope 1 would depend on fuel switching or WHRS. Mixing both in one project announcement makes the carbon number hard to verify. Need clearer accounting.

Cement is hard to decarbonize because most emissions come from calcination, not electricity. This PPA handles the power side, which is real but only part of the picture. Waste heat recovery and alternative fuels are doing more of the heavy lifting for Scope 1. Still good to see industrial buyers signing hybrids.

CleanMax keeps stacking C&I open access deals. 6 GW contracted as of June. The Nuvoco project fits the pattern. 100 MU at 46.4 MW is roughly a 24.6% capacity factor. That's low for a hybrid, but Rajasthan wind and solar combined should do better. Maybe they are being conservative.
