NutriBudget platform helps farmers and policymakers manage nutrients for better crop yields and cleaner water

The EU-funded NutriBudget project has developed NutriPlatform, a dashboard that tracks 10 nutrients including nitrogen, phosphorus, and carbon. It helps farmers, advisers, and policymakers balance crop production with environmental goals like soil health and water quality. The platform uses key performance indicators called NutriKPIs and offers a catalogue of 25 agronomic measures, with plans to expand to 50. Field trials across five European regions showed that nutrient management needs vary by climate and soil type. The platform also supports the use of bio-based fertilisers made from organic waste. The project aims to reach 40,000 farmers across Europe and will release its source code publicly to encourage wider adoption.
