Nuclear energy report at Tongzhou forum: China's path to carbon neutrality and a new power system
news.ruc.edu.cnChina Daily reports that a nuclear energy assessment was released at the Tongzhou Global Development Forum's 'Future Energy and Future Industries' sub-forum. The report examines nuclear's role in energy security and China's new power system, and concludes that China has a fairly complete nuclear industrial chain and strong engineering delivery capacity. It recommends using market mechanisms to capture nuclear's system value, plus stronger supply chain resilience, full life-cycle governance, and advanced reactor deployment to support carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals. Speakers from Renmin University, China Southern Power Grid, Cambridge, and other institutions discussed balancing energy security, affordability, and emissions reduction. They also called for better electricity and carbon market design, stronger regulation, deeper regional grid connectivity, and international cooperation. The forum also launched a program linking think tanks, universities, industry, and finance to support entrepreneurs working on energy transition.
