Nuclear Diamond Batteries (NDBI) Wins Second US Patent for Carbon Nano-Onion Energy Storage Materials
energydigital.comNuclear Diamond Batteries (OTC: NDBI) has received a second US patent from the USPTO for its subsidiary AtomiQ. Patent No. 12,759,882 covers methods for making carbon nano-onions from nanodiamond annealing and functionalizing carbon materials. The company says the technology could be used in electrodes, supercapacitors, and hybrid power systems for remote sensors and IoT devices. NDBI's first patent, issued earlier, covers a diamond-based nuclear-voltaic power source that converts radioisotope decay into electricity. Together they form the core of the company's push into long-life power sources for hard-to-service locations. The company has not yet commercialized a nuclear diamond battery, and it has not proven the technology will work in a finished product. NDBI is positioning itself for licensing deals and partnerships in aerospace, defense, industrial IoT, and other sectors where battery replacement is expensive. The new patent adds to a portfolio that also includes a metal-organic framework electrode application with carbon nano-onions.
