NTPC in talks with Japan, South Korea and Germany for green ammonia and low-carbon fuel offtake
thehindubusinessline.comNTPC, India's largest power producer, is talking to potential buyers in Japan, South Korea and Germany for green ammonia and other low-carbon fuels. Chairman Gurdeep Singh said the company is developing a green hydrogen hub in Andhra Pradesh and wants to shift from pilot projects to commercial ventures. The project is expected to produce green ammonia and green methanol, which are easier to ship than hydrogen. Offtake agreements are the main risk for green hydrogen projects globally, and India is no exception. NTPC's push for overseas buyers is an attempt to lock in demand before building out supply. The Indian government is backing the sector with around $2.1 billion in subsidies and a target of 5 million metric tons of green hydrogen per year by 2030. Whether these talks turn into signed contracts will determine if the Andhra hub moves beyond announcement stage.
