NTPC and EDF Power Solutions have formed a 50:50 joint venture to develop and operate low-carbon energy infrastructure in India and neighboring countries. The partnership will focus on pumped storage, hydroelectric plants, other renewables, and electricity distribution, supporting India's target of 100 GW of pumped storage capacity by 2036. The agreement was signed on September 25, 2026, by NTPC's Chairman Gurdeep Singh and EDF's CEO Bernard Fontana. The JV aims to combine technical and operational resources to deliver tailored low-carbon solutions and contribute to India's renewable energy market. This move highlights the growing role of state-owned utilities in the energy transition and the involvement of international partners in India's grid modernization efforts. The JV will also explore projects across neighboring nations, expanding its impact beyond domestic borders.
