A University of NSW study measured CO2 in 59 NSW public schools. It found 17 classrooms had carbon dioxide levels above what the National Construction Code recommends for most of the monitoring period. Poor ventilation in schools can affect student concentration and health. The study is one of the largest Australian assessments of classroom air quality. It raises questions about ventilation standards in existing school buildings and whether upgrades are needed to meet modern air quality targets. Better airflow can also reduce energy waste from heating and cooling systems.
