The funding will support a new production facility in New South Wales. Sicona says its silicon-carbon anodes can replace conventional graphite anodes in lithium-ion batteries, offering higher capacity without the swelling problems that have limited earlier silicon anode designs. If the company hits its targets, the technology could lower the cost per kilowatt-hour of battery storage and reduce reliance on imported graphite from China.
