Novacium and Tokai COBEX test silicon-graphite anode combo for European lithium-ion batteries
batteriesnews.comNovacium and Tokai COBEX have started exploratory work to see whether their anode materials can work together in a single lithium-ion battery anode. Novacium brings silicon-based materials with much higher theoretical capacity than graphite, while Tokai COBEX supplies battery-grade synthetic graphite made in France with a low-carbon process. The goal is a complete high-capacity, low-carbon anode produced in Europe. The project is still at the technical evaluation stage with no binding agreement. The two R&D teams are close to each other near Lyon, which could speed up testing. If the results hold up, it could reduce Europe's reliance on imported anode materials and strengthen the regional battery supply chain.
