Nouryon starts solar generation at Illinois chemical plant, cutting site emissions | carboncredit.io
chemengonline.comNouryon has started generating solar electricity at its Morris, Illinois manufacturing plant, its first U.S. solar project. The system was developed with Convergent Energy and Power and supplies power directly to the site. It is expected to produce about 3,400 MWh per year, covering roughly 10% of the plant's electricity needs and avoiding an estimated 1,152 metric tons of CO2 annually. The Morris project is part of a broader push by Nouryon to use renewable and low-carbon electricity across its global operations. The company says renewables supplied 54% of its worldwide electricity in 2025, and it has a target to cut absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030 from a 2019 baseline. Similar on-site solar projects are planned in Texas and Japan.
