Nouryon energizes 2 MW solar array at Morris, Illinois chemical plant
solarbuildermag.comNouryon has brought a 2 MW solar project online at its specialty chemicals facility in Morris, Illinois. Developed with Convergent Energy and Power, the array reached commercial operation on October 1 and will supply electricity directly to the plant. The company expects it to generate about 3.4 GWh per year, covering roughly 10% of the site's annual electrical needs and cutting an estimated 1,152 metric tons of carbon emissions annually. This is Nouryon's first on-site solar installation in the U.S., following similar projects in Belgium, Singapore, and China. The company says 54% of its worldwide electricity came from renewable sources in 2025, and it has committed to reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 40% by 2030 from a 2019 baseline. Additional energy projects are planned in Houston, Fort Worth, and Asa, Japan. For industrial facilities looking to cut grid-purchased electricity and Scope 2 emissions, this project offers a concrete example of behind-the-meter solar paired with an energy supplier. The 2 MW size is modest relative to the plant's total load, but it shows how on-site generation can fit into a broader corporate decarbonization strategy.
