Northern Lights and Öresundskraft Sign 200,000-Ton CCS Deal for Swedish Waste-to-Energy Plant
carbonherald.comNorthern Lights JV has signed a commercial deal with Swedish utility Öresundskraft to store up to 200,000 tonnes of CO2 per year from the Filbornaverket waste-to-energy plant in Helsingborg. The captured CO2 will be trucked to the Port of Halland, shipped as liquid CO2 to Norway, and injected into a subsea reservoir at the Øygarden terminal. The project is backed by a €60 million EU Innovation Fund grant and is scheduled to start in late 2029. The agreement makes Öresundskraft Northern Lights' second Swedish customer and seventh overall across four European countries. It also feeds into the operator's Phase 2 expansion, which aims to raise total storage capacity from 1.5 million to more than 5 million tonnes per year. For anyone tracking CCS scale-up in Europe, this is another sign that shared CO2 transport and storage infrastructure is moving from pilot stage to commercial operation.
