Northern Ireland's Sustainable Farming Investment Scheme (SFIS) has opened for applications, offering eligible farmers up to £25,000 in grant funding at a 40% rate. The scheme supports investment in modern equipment and technology aimed at improving environmental performance, animal health, and business efficiency. It covers a pre-selected list of items including low emission slurry spreading equipment and tools for crop, grassland, and livestock management. The scheme, developed under Northern Ireland's Sustainable Agriculture Programme, will run in multiple rounds over the next three to four years. Investments between £3,000 and £62,500 are eligible, with grants based on reference prices so farmers do not need to provide quotes. Applications close on September 3, 2026, and scoring is based on the average environmental and efficiency benefits of selected items. This is a practical step toward decarbonizing the agricultural sector through direct capital support.
