North Sea CCS and Hydrogen Infrastructure Needs Integrated Policy to Scale
businessnewswales.comA new report from DNV and OEUK argues that the North Sea must be treated as a single integrated system for carbon capture and storage (CCS) and hydrogen transport. Moving away from isolated national projects is seen as the only way to ensure affordability and long term resilience for European industrial clusters. While the UK Continental Shelf has the geological capacity to store 70 billion tonnes of CO2, the report warns that injection capacity could be outpaced by capture volumes by the 2040s. To attract the necessary capital for these 20 to 30 year investments, the industry requires clearer cross border rules on liability and regulation.
