Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi has become the first airport in Vietnam to achieve Level 1 of the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program. The accreditation, run by ACI, requires airports to identify emission sources, define inventory boundaries, and calculate Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions. For Noi Bai, this creates a verified data foundation for tracking emissions from vehicles, generators, refrigerants, wastewater treatment, and purchased electricity. The move supports Vietnam's national green transition policies, including Prime Minister's Decision 876 and the Ministry of Transport's 1679, which call for aviation to reduce CO2 emissions. Noi Bai's inventory also positions it to meet greenhouse gas inventory obligations under Decision 42/2026. Achieving Level 1 is a practical first step, but the airport will need to move to higher ACA levels to set reduction targets and demonstrate ongoing progress.
