NMDC, India's largest iron ore producer, has announced a net-zero operational emissions target for 2047. The roadmap covers Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions and aims for at least a 90% direct reduction, with offsets only for residual emissions. The plan is split into three phases: short term FY26 to FY30, medium term FY30 to FY40, and long term FY40 to FY47. Key levers include energy efficiency, renewable energy integration, fleet electrification, low-carbon fuels, CCUS, and demand-side management. Logistics also get attention through a planned slurry pipeline and expanded rail freight capacity. NMDC currently operates a 10.5 MW wind facility and produced a record 53 million tonnes of iron ore last year. The move supports India's net-zero by 2070 goal and helps NMDC prepare for carbon border measures like CBAM.
